NRDC uses law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. In India for over 10 years now, NRDC has been a thought leader and trusted adviser to the partners within the country to tackle climate change and implement energy solution. Since 2009, the India Initiative has combined scientific research and policy acumen to produce game-changing results.

POSITION SUMMARY

NRDC India is hiring a Lead - Renewable Energy who will be the team leader in India and will play an active role in advancing our work on clean energy and the climate change domain in India.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Policy and technical research, analysis, writing on climate change and clean energy in India and in the international context (focus on renewables, clean energy and climate policy)
  • Lead on the groundwork on developing and implementing strategies to advance renewable energy work, including project management, stakeholder roundtables, policy development, technical research, analysis, and writing.
  • Coordinate closely with national, state, and grassroot partners on overall strategy and implementation to deliver policy and technical assistance on issues related to clean energy.
  • Shape policy and market movement through roundtables, meetings, and analysis, involving deep engagement with industry and business leaders active nationally and locally as well as the media involved in the clean energy space.
  • Provide direct on-call, quick turnaround policy and technical assistance to our partners, participating in weekly calls, roundtables and site visits.
  • Communicate and liaison internally through daily communication by phone, email and in-person to partners and colleagues internationally.
  • International and domestic travel for meetings, conferences, and roundtables

REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education & Experience
Required

  • Commitment to NRDC’s mission and values.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field of study such as energy systems, engineering, renewable energy, policy and other related fields will be preferred.
  • Atleast 10 years of experience in energy/environmental or other policy work in India.
  • Knowledge on energy issues including - renewable energy, energy access, utilities, green hydrogen, green finance, climate change and relevant policy, finance and legal issues.
  • Experience overseeing and managing individuals and or organizations along with an experience of contract management.
  • Should have relevant network among key clean energy stakeholders.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of the Indian political system, economic structures, and socio-cultural landscape.
  • Excellent writing skills, strong verbal communication, and confident public speaker.
  • Experience working with city governments preferred along with a knowledge of the Indian political system, economic structures, and socio-cultural landscape, and a network of professional contacts in India.
  • Ability to participate in teams that work collaboratively towards shared outcomes (including remote teams using collaborative software).
  • Experience with facilitating networks, coordinating and organizing events and activities is a plus.
  • Experience being part of large, cross-sector, multi-partner initiatives is a plus.
